The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate- protein and low-carbohydrate diet, which is mainly used for the treatment of drug- resistant epilepsy and in case of serious intolerance to antiepileptic drugs; furthermore, it is a first- line therapy of metabolic disorders such as GLuT-1 deficiency syndrome and pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (Pdc) deficiency. it may be as well considered in a variety of other neurologic, metabolic, oncologic, neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders, such as autism, depression, migraine and brain trauma.
